OVERVIEW
Seabourn Sojourn is the second of three new luxury ships being built for Yachts of Seabourn between 2009 and 2011.
The ship was named at a no-expense-spared ceremony in Greenwich in London by 60’s icon Twiggy, now known as the face of M&S – a decision Seabourn hoped would raise the profile of the brand in the UK.
Sojourn is three times bigger than Seabourn’s three small ships (Seabourn Spirit, Pride and Legend) but only carries just over twice as many passengers, giving it a very high space ratio and a roomy feel.
Special features include a spa villa, which can be rented for a half-day, where couples can relax, dine and have massages in privacy, and a choice of four places to dine.
Seabourn Sojourn has eight public decks numbered from four to 11.
Deck 11 is just a small area at the front of the ship for sunbathing, while deck 10 is split into two sections, with suites and the observation lounge at the front and the upper level of the spa at the back. This houses the spa villa and an outdoor relaxation area that’s open to all spa-goers.
Passengers also have access to deck two, but only to use the water sports platform that folds down from the back of the ship when conditions allow. There’s water skiing, kayaking and sailing equipment, and it’s all free.
Each deck has suites at the front with public areas in the back half of the ship.
Deck nine houses the spa and fitness centre.
Deck eight has a small swimming pool, Restaurant 2, for speciality dining, and the Colonnade, which offers buffet breakfast and lunch, and waiter-service themed menus for dinner.
Deck seven houses a couple of shops and Seabourn Square, which encompasses a coffee bar and lounge, the library, the concierge/reception desks and the internet café.
The Grand Salon theatre is on deck six, The Club lounge and casino are on deck five. Deck four houses The Restaurant.?
Seabourn Sojourn has all-suite accommodation – a total 225 rooms. All are outside and 197 have a balcony.
Suites range in size from 295 square feet for a standard ocean view suite to 1,302 square feet, including the balcony, for the Signature Suite. This can be combined with a next-door veranda suite to create a 1,682 square feet Grand Signature Suite.
A standard balcony suite measures 365 square feet, the Wintergarden Suites are 1,097 square feet, or 1,397 square feet when combined with the next-door veranda suite.
All suites have walk-in closets, large bathrooms with his and hers sinks, separate showers and bathtubs, and Molton Brown amenities.
They are all equipped with flat-screen interactive TVs, DVDs, bathrobes and slippers, safes, minibars, hairdryers, umbrellas, an atlas. A fruit basket is replenished daily.
Passengers staying in accommodation from Owner’s suites upwards have a whirlpool bathtub and separate guest toilet. Those in suites from Signature level upward can have butler service on request. Wintergarden Suites have a glass-enclosed solarium with a tub and sunbed.
All suites have access to free 24-hour room service.
There are song-and-dance shows in the Grand Salon in the evenings and live music in The Club. The casino is open whenever the ship is at sea.
The Restaurant is the main dining venue on Seabourn Sojourn. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, always with open seating so passengers can dine when they want and sit with whom they choose.
The Colonnade is open for buffet breakfast and lunch, and has waiter service themed menus in the evenings.
Restaurant 2 offers a tasting menu. There are six courses, each with three bite-size portions of food that have been created to complement each other. Waiters will advise diners which order to eat the portions to get the most from the combination of tastes. Restaurant 2 is free but reservations are required.
The pool-side Patio Grill on deck nine is open during the day and into the evening, weather permitting, for al fresco pastries in the morning and burgers, fries, pizzas and hotdogs the rest of the time.
The coffee bar in Seabourn Square serves sandwiches and pastries. There is no charge.
Seabourn offers an upmarket American-style product that would be appreciated by English-speaking cruisers of all nationalities and ages looking for a truly ultra-luxury experience.
It would also suit sophisticated couples who stay in five-star hotels when on holiday and know the value of personal service.
This is not a ship for families with very small children. Think more in terms of older teenagers who have grown out of wanting organised activities.
Formal evenings are called Black Tie Optional because Seaborne is supposed to be a more casual yachting experience.
There are no Black Tie Optional evenings on cruises up to eight days. Expect one on cruises of nine to 13 days, two on cruises of from 14-20 days and three on cruises over 21 days.
There is no charge to eat in the speciality restaurant, but reservations are required.
Drinks (other than premium spirits) and gratuities are included in the cruise price.
Wi-fi is available throughout the ship, including in suites. There is a substantial charge to go on line.
